Feedback from a Grandparent on our Grade 7 Farewell Assembly

Our school focus has been on building community this year. We received a lovely email with observations from our Grade 7 Farewell Assembly. Here is an excerpt from the grandparent's message...

"I wanted to take the opportunity to share my feelings about the assembly I attended on Friday.

I walked into a beautifully decorated gymnasium with a well organized seating plan. I saw school staff attending to all of the children in the gym. Those that required a little more help than others were supported inconspicuously. I heard beautiful singing and amazing speeches. I heard one of the most beautiful land acknowledgements that was personalized along with our District acknowledgement from a student and it hit home. The speeches that the grade 7 students shared were from the heart, wise and sincere. We were not being talked at, we were hearing their stories and they were deep. It was the same from the teachers and their sharing of the grade 7 profiles.

Mrs. Tse gave a wonderful opening and Mr. Juhasz delivered a message that was very meaningful.
I watched the kids treating each other with respect, handling things like the person in front of them on their knees rather than on their bums and blocking those behind from seeing, or that kid who is just an inch or two over in someone's space. The few in front of me were handling the situation beautifully and I think they were maybe in grade 3 or 4. These may sound like little things but when I think about our goal of safe schools and simply treating each other with respect, this was the evidence and there was so much more."

What an amazing way to end our year together... we definitely have come a long way from September!
