Message from City of Richmond re Idling Cars

We have received numerous resident concerns regarding the idling of vehicles in school zones while parents are either picking up or dropping of kids for school.  We will be addressing this situation through our social media and with our officers educating parents while doing their daily patrols at the schools.  I was hoping that a message could go home to parents, to bring to their attention that not only is  idling a violation under the traffic bylaw 5870 Section 12.15.1 and carries a fine of $75.00 but doing so is not sustainable or saving the planet

No person shall cause or permit a vehicle to idle at any one time:

For more than three minutes unless queued with stopped traffic in the travel portion of the street; or
    While unattended.

Season’s Greetings!
